Now that the votes are cast, what is next?

Published: November 5, 2024

It’s been a long and unprecedented election season and, now that election day has arrived, many are wondering – what’s next, and what might this mean for the financial markets and your investments?

Regardless of the outcome, history shows that the markets tend to favor certainty over uncertainty. While some short-term market volatility may occur post-election, we believe stability will follow. Historically, markets have generally performed positively after major elections, regardless of the outcome or the balance between executive and legislative branches of government, as illustrated in the chart below.

At Klingenstein Fields Advisors, we remain cautiously optimistic about the economy and the markets. We believe in the resilience of our nation, economy and institutions, which have continued to thrive and grow through many challenges. We are closely watching any developments which may affect our investment strategy.
