LA Wildfires
Published: January 10, 2025
Our nation has been absorbed by the horrific wildfires that are raging and have destroyed vast areas of Los Angeles County. We hope that our California clients and their families and friends are safe and have a place of refuge during this difficult time. Our heartfelt appreciation goes out to the firefighters, police personnel, relief agencies, and generous volunteers who are working tirelessly to battle the fires and assist the affected communities.
In one of our recent webinars, Michael S. Schiff, Managing Director, Client Development, KF Advisors, and Scott Medley, Principal, EPIC Insurance Brokers and Consultants, discussed the current insurance environment and the impact that localized disastrous events can have on property and casualty rates nationwide. You may find this webinar particularly pertinent given the Los Angeles wildfires. For more information and to watch the webinar, please visit our YouTube channel.
For those wishing to support and aid those impacted by the fires, the New York Times has compiled information on the following organizations and efforts:
- GoFundMe’s 2025 Wildfire Relief Fund – funds will “go directly to people impacted who are seeking help through GoFundMe fund-raisers, and to nonprofit organizations on the ground providing relief.”
- The American Red Cross – visit redcross.org, call 1-800-RED CROSS (800-733-2767) or text the word REDCROSS to 90999 to make a donation that will help “provide shelter and support to people who were affected.”
- Mutual Aid L.A. Network – has created a Google spreadsheet listing information about shelters and animal centers, as well as volunteer and donation opportunities.
- The Y.M.C.A. of Metropolitan Los Angeles – taking donations of essential items at its Koreatown Center for Community Well-Being and Westchester Y.M.C.A. locations of essential items for families affected by the fires.
- Direct Relief – distributing free free N95 respirators and other essential items in Los Angeles, and it is also accepting donations.
- World Central Kitchen (WCK) – founded by the chef José Andrés, it is working with food trucks and restaurants to provide meals for emergency workers and anyone affected by the wildfires. They need both volunteers and donations.
- The Los Angeles Regional Food Bank – accepting financial donations and essential items, and seeks volunteers. A list of needed items can be found here.
- Save the Children – working with local partners to “ensure essential, child-focused supplies are getting into the hands of children and families impacted by the wind-fueled fires,” and it is also accepting donations.
