May is Melanoma Awareness Month. Our friend and fearless advocate for skin cancer prevention, Dr. Ellen Marmur, continues her call for skin cancer to “Take a Hike!” Every year, Dr. Marmur, along with an amazing group of fellow dermatologists, survivors, and advocates, hikes to raise awareness and funds for skin cancer screenings, prevention tools, and educational programs. This year, they journey to Japan, where Dr. Marmur’s team, “Marmur Kazoku” (which means family in Japanese), will hike 35 miles over an 8-day period. Thirty-two people die of skin cancer every day, but if detected early, skin cancer has an extremely high rate of survival. You can find out more about skin cancer prevention and awareness and supporting the American Academy of Dermatology Association’s Skin Cancer, Take a Hike!TM. Kudos and good luck to team Marmur Kazoku!
